Gionee Marathon M5 Lite Review: The Golden Beauty with Powerful Battery Backup
Gionee has just made a revolution in the world of smart android mobile phone with the launch of Marathon series. After the grand success of Gionee Marathon M5, the company just have launched the lite version of Gionee M5 i.e. Gionee Marathon M5 Lite a month ago. The 4000 mAh battery of the phone is so good that you can throw away the power bank easily. The phone is very popular for it’s 3 gb RAM which can take the above all performance of the phone at a high level and you have to pay an affordable price (12,000 INR approximately) for getting the handset. Gionee M5 Lite looks very pretty as it is a golden colored phone with metallic finish. The dark black screen make it’s look more beautiful. Before describing more about the phone, it’s specification and it’s features, in a word, I can say that the phone is awesome and I am personally using the great gadget with the full functionality.
The combination of 3gb RAM and 4000mAh battery out-compete all other similar budget phones of Asus, Lenovo etc. in the market. Now, your question is what makes the phone so popular? or Why TechPerdiem suggests you for using the phone from Gionee? Why?
Gionee Marathon M5 Lite – Full Specification and Complete Review
Unboxing: The white colored box contains the handset, charger, USB cable, headset, manual and a back cover of the phone. The quality of the phone and it’s accessories are just superb.
Look and Feel: The phone scores more points in the first impression – as it looks great with it’s golden finish along with black screen beauty. The black screen combination with golden bar gives the phone a premium look. The phone is slimmer (just 8.5 mm) but slightly heavier with a 183 gm of weight (it’s persistence in your pocket can be felt always). The M5 Lite is using a metallic frame with premium quality matte golden finish all around the outer body. There is a shiny golden colored border on the side of the phone.
The Power and the Volume keys are placed at the right side of the phone which makes it relatively easier for operating and handling. The phone does not have a firm grip, but if you use the rear cover, you may get a firm grip. However, this is not a problem at all.
Display: The phone have a 5” IPS HD display with Asahi Dragontail glass support (for more added strength and scratch resistance). It uses capacitive touch screen with 16M colors. The pixel density is near about 300 ppi with 1280 x 720 screen resolution. As a result, the images and texts are sharp and clear. Even, no pixelated icon would be found in the display. Gionee, once again, has made us disappointed without providing any LED indicator or notification back-light for the capacitive buttons.
Multi-touch normally works great, but very few occasions I have find some touch smoothness problem while working with the handset.
Sim and Network Support: The phone have a two micro-sim support, both of them support 4G LTE network band (2100, 1800, 2600, 2300) and GSM 2G and HSDPA 3G band. The LTE Cat4 speed is as much as 150/150 mbps in both of the sim (sim1+sim2).
Chipset, RAM, Internal and External Memory: Mediatek MT6735 Chipset provides a brilliant support along with Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. It also uses a Mali-T720MP2 GPU. So, the performance of the phone is undoubtedly good. The M5 Lite has a 32 gb internal storage (6.73 gb space is used by system and 25.27 gb space is free for use) and it supports upto 128 gb external memory card for which the phone has a dedicated slot. The phone uses a 3 gb RAM. So, as far as memory of the phone is concerned, it should not generate any issue as far as apps installation is concerned. Most of the android users face the lack of apps installation memory problem. The phone easily bypasses the same by providing the immense RAM and memory (internal+external) support.
Software or OS: The Gionee’s M5 Lite uses Android 5.1 lollipop with customized Amigo 3.1 (single-layered stock launcher) skin running. So, it looks a bit different compared to other Android Lollipop versions. It supports multiple lock screen wallpaper at a same time which changes regularly and automatically (I personally love the feature very much). You can access all the quick settings in the phones control centre just by swiping up from the very bottom of the screen (different from any other company’s phone).
The built-in color picker utility lets you create a customized theme instantly. The inbuilt system manager gives support like cache cleaning, app manager (to take control over auto-start applications and much more), Eco Mode (ensures smother performance when memory is 20% or lesser), Traffic (control networking) etc.
The M5 Lite has also a long screenshot feature to take screenshot of entire webpage or something else.
The file manager of the phone supports FTP transfer and using this feature one can easily transfer files between phones and PCs from a same Wi-fi network.
Camera: The M5 Lite has a primary camera of 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and 5 MP secondary camera. Though, the primary camera have touch focus, face/smile detection, Geo-tagging, panorama, HDR like features, yet, it only manage to capture an average image. The camera quality should be more good. When all the budget phones have a 15 MP primary camera, the company has only managed to add 8 MP camera in Gionee Marathon M5 Lite smartphone. The video capturing is more or less good, as it supports full HD video recording.
Battery: The main part of the Marathon series phones are batteries. In Gionee M5 Lite, battery is very good enough to keep the phone running for days work. The 4000 mAh battery is a non-removable one which is attached to the mobile unit. The power management unit of the phone can control the consumption of the battery power somehow. The extreme power saving mode lets the phone awake 8 times more than the normal mode. In power saving mode one can use the basic functionalities like Phone, Messaging, Clock and Calender. This is the superb feature of M5 Lite. In normal running condition the phone consumes hardly half of the battery and this is awesome.
But, one drawback is the phone takes nearly 4 and 1/2 an hour for full charge with the given charger.
Verdict:
Marathon M5 Lite by Gionee is very much suitable who are looking for great battery life, and who loves to handle many applications on a smartphone. Most of the built in apps of this smart phone is removable. The front camera works fine for taking good selfie. The phone is premium at it’s look, it is good to handle, the performance of the phone is great as it never hangs even if you handle multiple applications and games at a same time. The SAR value of the phone is very less (0.375W/kg @ 1 g for head, 0.535W/kg @ 1 g for body), so, the phone is very safe to use. Finger print scanner and quick charging yet to be included in Gionee’s handset. Otherwise, I personally love the phone very much and this is the best phone around 12K INR. Hope, this Gionee Marathon M5 review helps and satisfies you a lot for deciding whether you will buy it or not.
